PSV beat Vitesse in final game of the year: 2-1
PSV came from behind to beat Vitesse 2-1 in the last game before the winter break, thanks to goals from Daniel Schwaab and Hirving Lozano either side of half-time..
The game was wide open, and neither team clearly dominated play in the early opening exchanges. PSV registered the game’s first chances, but Lozano and the industrious Bergwijn could not convert them into goals.
Former PSV keeper Remko Pasveer pulled off some fine saves to deny Lozano.
Vitesse took the lead on 32 minutes. Rashica delivered a low cross from the left and Tim Matavz nipped in to tap home the opening goal from close range: 0-1.
It was all square again on 43 minutes. Daniel Schwaab met Hirving Lozano’s freekick with a flying header into the bottom corner of the net. HT: 1-1.
Six minutes into the second half, Hirving Lozano unleashed a powerful long-range effort shot that flew past a hapless Remko Pasveer and nestled in the top corner to spark wild scenes at the Philips Stadion: 2-1.
PSV looked to kill off the game and Luuk de Jong had a great goal scoring opportunity on 77 minutes, but he laid the ball off to Lozano rather than going for the shot himself.
Phillip Cocu’s side gained 48 points from 18 games in 2017. PSV will return to training on 4 January and jet off to America one day later.
