Cocu handed Sam Lammers his first senior start in the Philips Stadion. The youngster spearheaded the attack, while Jorrit Hendrix, Gastón Pereiro and Daniel Schwaab also started for PSV.
Luuk de Jong and Bergwijn missed the game though injury. Locadia and Willems were on the bench. PSV enjoyed the bulk of possession but failed to create any chances of note in the first half.
Hendrix tried his luck from long range with an effort from thirty yards out, but it was the visitors who found the back of the net. Jeroen Zoet looked to make and an easy save but failed to gather the ball and Van der Pavert was on hand to open the scoring: 0-1.
PSV could not break down a determined PEC defence after the break. Pereiro came close twice and Van Ginkel’s vicious shot went just wide of the post. But then PSV ran riot in the closing stages, turning the game upside down, netting four goals in the space of just ten minutes.
Héctor Moreno put PSV back on level terms on 79 minutes, while Santiago Arias rifled the ball into the far corner sixty seconds later. Sam Lammers scored his first senior goal for PSV in the Philips Stadion on 85 minutes and three minutes later substitute Bart Ramselaar added his name to the score sheet: 4-1.
