PSV looked to return to winning ways when they took on VVV-Venlo on Saturday night. The deadlock was broken by Van Ginkel in the 68th minute and Lozano and van Ginkel (from the spot) added two more goals to secure a 3-0 victory.
PSV had a number of half chances to open the scoring. VVV-Venlo keeper Lars Unnerstal pulled off a save at the near post to deny Santiago Arias, while Hirving Lozano shot straight at the keeper.
PSV began to press high in the closing stages of the first half. Lars Unnerstall kept out Luuk de Jong’s header with a fine reflex save. Lozano tried his luck with a bicycle kick but his effort went just wide of the post.
The visitors were reduced to ten men on 58 minutes when Ralf Seuntjes was shown a red card by referee Gözübüyük after receiving a second yellow card. PSV came close when Daniel Schwaab rose high to meet Lozano’s corner with a fierce header against the bar.
PSV finally made use of their numerical advantage in the 68th minute. Lozano took a corner and Marco van Ginkel headed home the opener from close range at the far post: 1-0.
Hirving Lozano doubled PSV’s lead on 80 minutes and four minutes later, Marco van Ginkel made it three from the spot. Nineteen-year old defender Armando Obispo made his PSV debut with five minutes remaining, when he came on to replace Nicolas Isimat-Mirin.
Luuk de Jong was happy with the win. “We’ve responded well and put on a decent team display. It was a low-temp game before the break but we upped a gear in the second half and scored three goals.”
