De Herdgang training ground was a hive of activity today as the players returned for the first day of pre-season. They look to take revenge for a disappointing season and win the Eredivisie title in 2018, after having clinched the title in 2015 and 2016. Phillip Cocu’s men trained for the first time on Monday afternoon.

The players, including Van Luuk de Jong and Dante Rigo, headed out onto the pristine pitches outside. Santiago Arias, Andrés Guardado and PSV’s latest summer signing Hirving Lozano were absent. The Columbian defender will report for duty in Eindhoven later this week, while the two Mexicans, who played in the Confederations Cup, are afforded a break until 15 July before joining up with the rest of the squad.
Fans of PSV traditionally turned up in numbers to watch PSV’s first pre-season training session. They lit flares as Adam Maher as well as the young guns Dante Rigo and Albert Gudmundsson were all in attendance. Goalkeeper Remko Pasveer was given permission to hold talks for a transfer to Vitesse.
Jordy de Wijs, who joined Excelsior on loan last season, was back at De Herdgang. The defender is given a chance to impress in pre-season. “I will give my all. I think I am a better and more experienced player and can’t wait to get going.”
Revenge is this season’s key word. Bart Ramselaar has joined the squad for pre-season training on the very first day and has only one mission: “Win the Eredivisie title this season. I like life in Eindhoven and want to play my part this year.”
The players rounded off their first day of pre-season training with signing autographs or posing for selfies. They will keep on doing so after the double training sessions this week.
All sessions at De Herdgang training ground are open to the public. Phillip Cocu’s men will kick off their preparations with a game against RKC Waalwijk. The match will take place on Saturday 8th July at the Mandemakers Stadion with a 16.00 kick-off. PSV will leave for Switzerland on Monday July 10th and set up a training camp in Verbier in the Swiss Alps.
