PSV stay top with a 3-0 win over Heracles
Following the 3-0 win over Heracles, PSV have extended their winning streak at home to sixteen games in a row. Phillip Cocu’s team stay top of the table with 24 points from nine games.
PSV, with Lozano who had shaken off an elbow problem, started brightly. Gastón Pereiro had a huge goal scoring opportunity on three minutes. The Uruguayan rounded Heracles keeper Bram Castro but the ball flew an inch wide.
Heracles were pushed back unto their own half. Locadia had a fierce shot smothered while Marco van Ginkel sent his effort wide and Luuk de Jong fired into the side netting. PSV deservedly made the breakthrough on 18 minutes
Jorrit Hendrix delivered an accurate, pinpoint pass and Lozano was on hand to control the ball well and provide the perfect finish, taking his tally for the season to seven: 1-0.
PSV had a hatful of chances to double their lead but did not take them. De Jong singled out Van Ginkel but PSV ’s captain shot went just wide. Joshua Brenet sent in an inviting cross but De Jong headed wide.
PSV survived a scare on the hour mark when Navratil was one-on-one with Jeroen Zoet. PSV ‘s goalkeeper stayed calm and prevented him from netting an equaliser.
Phillip Cocu’s men got the goal they wanted with eleven minutes remaining. Substitute Mauro Junior flicked on Hendrix’s cross who tapped home from close range: 2-0. Robin Pröpper was sent off in the final minute and Van Ginkel made it three from the penalty spot: 3-0.
